Last week I was trolling around web looking for some ideas about blogging. Not the creation of a post or a topic in general but more of a manifesto on some general principles to fallow about running a blog and creating a community around it. From one well crafted post I had all my questions answered.
How not to suck at blogging by Baker. This post goes through it all linking to Dave’s inspirations and influences. Most notably Chris Guillebeau’s 279 Days to Overnight Success. Just discovering this document through this post made my Google guided read of Man vs Debt worth my time and effort. Like Dave, once I read this e-manifesto it has become my blogging bible. Here are the parts of it that most affected me:
- Shattered my model of what blogging could be
- How to be remarkable and leverage your personal story
- Balancing being authentic with “fake-it-until-you-make-it”
Man vs Debt
After reading this initial post I started looking around and got into the meat of this blog. The posts cover two niches “personal finance” and “lifestyle design/travel”. I find Dave’s writing style enjoyable and have subscribed both to his RSS fead and news letter. I was happy to do this because the site showed me a thing or two about finance (and I know I can learn more). It is everything I envisioned about my “welthy blogger” concept (book) but for real, not fiction. People learning personal finance from a ‘Guy Next Door’ not a ‘Banker’. I enjoy the level of transparency he has over his own finances to help teach others. I take personal inspiration from this and hope I can match him my own en-devours here on this blog.
If you have never taken a troll over to Baker’s blog I highly recommend it. Be careful though you might learn something, I know I did on many levels.
